Ed the Wizard (May 2017)

Ed the Wizard and his programs “Reading is Magic”, “Math is Magic” and “Alchemy Laboratory” appeared at Northfield Elementary School on May 31, 2017.  Inspired by the book series “Harry Potter”, Ed the Wizard weaves together the importance of building and maintaining one’s reading skills with his interactive magic performances.

“Reading is Magic” was an interactive magic performance for the Pre-K – 1st grade students showing how reading and comprehension skills are an important tool of everyday life.  It also emphasized the importance of building and maintaining reading skills.

“Alchemy Laboratory” was performed for the 2nd – 4th grade students and combined magic with the science behind it, using 3 of the Greek Elements: Earth, Air, and Water.  It allowed the students to learn and perform magical feats using only common household items and ask science related questions.

“Math is Magic” was a unique program performed for the 5th & 6th grade students that helped to encourage the learning of math principles.  It was an interactive, hands on magic performance using basic algebra, the law of probabilities and other math concepts and emphasized the value and importance of building and maintaining math skills.

This program was supported in part by a grant from the Northfield Cultural Council,
a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
